Johannesburg’s best dance - Joburg Ballet

Johannesburg’s best dance companies come together to create a magical show that depicts the highs and lows of the entertainment industry.
Big City, Big Dreams is the newest production set to take place at the Joburg Theatre at the end of July – fusing the dance styles of three different and influential dance companies.
Founder of Vuyani Dance Theatre, Gregory Vuyani Maqoma, talked about the upcoming show on which they will be collaborating.
“The company will be in collaboration with Johannesburg Ballet and Moving into Dance Mophatong, working on a new production, Big City, Big Dreams.”
The production follows then story of, and delves deeply into the emotions felt by a young boy
who arrives in the City of Gold and takes his first steps into the corporate world, only to realise his hopes of pursuing a newfound dance aspiration – an experience that many aspiring entertainers face; be it on stage, in music or behind the camera. Fiona Ramsay, celebrated
local stage director, is at the helm of the production and has called on the creative direction of three choreographers – one from each dance company, namely, Shannon Glover from Joburg Ballet, Lulu Mlangeni from Vuyani Dance Theatre and Sunnyboy Motau of Moving into Dance Mophatong.
Mlangeni put together an exciting production this year, called 27 Pages, which was performed at
Dance Umbrella.
Glover has choreographed a number of dances for Joburg Ballet productions in the past and shows her creative skills once more.
Motau has been a part of Moving into Dance Mophatong for many years and has choreographed pieces staged at Wits University, in addition to many other venues. Big City, Big Dreams opens on 28 July, so don’t miss it. 
