Ernest Mahlaule the President of the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry - JCCI Annual Conference

The annual JCCI Conference is an event that is very close to my heart. Last year the annual conference was revived as there is a need to create an opportunity for key stakeholders in the economy to engage constructively and share ideas on how to ignite growth and investment.

The inaugural JCCI annual conference in 2016 was around the theme of Inclusive Growth through Stakeholder Partnerships. The keynote speaker Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, shared his objectives for the Gauteng Province’s economy and the challenges that need to be overcome. He called for business and government to work together to make the Province a key player on the continent and an attractive destination for investment. Makhura identified the fostering of good governance as a key objective.

The 2017 conference will build on the theme of Inclusive Growth through Stakeholder Partnerships. However, this year the focus will be on development opportunities for black SMEs. The private sector that often does not get recognition for their contribution in growing the black business sector will be profiling their enterprise and supplier development projects.

Premier Makhura will once again use the JCCI Conference as a vehicle to interact with business and to share his plans to develop the economy.

The conference will create opportunities for corporates to share information with each other so that they can identify project synergies and thereby maximize their commitment. There will be a discussion on whether existing projects are on the right track to make a meaningful difference to black business development.

A panel discussion will review enterprise and supplier project challenges, success factors and outcomes.

Black businesses at the conference will be able to make contact with the corporates who are their potential customers and those which have development projects that they may qualify to join as beneficiaries if they meet the project development criteria.

Some of the corporate projects that will be showcased are those of Growthpoint’s Property Point, the National Tooling Initiative Programme, and Ernst and Young’s supplier and development project.

The conference will also take a look at the future and examine how the 4th Industrial Revolution will affect South African business. The Golf day on 2 August will be another opportunity to spend time networking with clients and forging meaningful lasting relationships.
